The Senior Safety Management System (SMS) Partner is responsible for the oversight and continuous improvement of the SMS for Southwest. This includes regular review and alignment to industry best practices and ongoing positive relationships with all departments in the oversight of SMS processes and FAA SMS regulatory requirements. Responsibilities
Supports and communicates all aspects of the Safety Management System (SMS) both verbally and in writing to all levels of Leadership/Employees
Facilitates cross-departmental system assessments and ensures corrective actions are implemented and that safety risk management is conducted when required
Oversees all Southwest Airlines Departments for compliance with the SMS regulatory requirements and industry guidelines
Manages the system assessment processes and associated reporting systems/databases applicable to SWA System Assessment processes
Collaborates with other Southwest Airlines Departments on SMS activities
Promotes SMS across all levels of Leadership and Employees
Represents Southwest Airlines’ SMS with regulatory authorities/governing bodies (FAA, ICAO, DOD, etc.)
Leads continuous improvement opportunities to enhance SWA Safety
Oversees quality control of SWA System Assessment outputs
Supports SMS documentation, publications, and manuals
Produces reports and provides briefings regarding Safety Assurance and the SMS
Provides SME expertise for SMS Training
May perform other job duties as Directed by Employee’s Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Expert knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Advisory Circular (AC) 120-92B
Expert knowledge of commercial airline operations
Skilled in research, investigation, analysis and problem solving
Skilled in both written and verbal communication
Skilled in delivering presentations to small and large audiences and all levels of Leadership
Skilled in organization with strong attention to detail
Ability to facilitate and lead effective meetings
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple situations simultaneously
Ability to think strategically and understand the relationship between current actions and future consequences
Ability to manage sensitive situations while maintaining confidentiality
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
Expert level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
Safety Management Systems (SMS)
Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
Commercial airline operational environment, aviation safety
Data collection and/or analysis programs
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Pay & Benefits
Competitive market salary from $125,000 per year to $128,000 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
