St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Silver Spring Maryland is hiring a Parish Business Manager. This is a full time role and will report to the Pastor. St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Silver Spring, MD is seeking a full-time Parish Business Manager to oversee all business and administrative functions of the parish, school, and associated ministries. Reporting directly to the Pastor, the Business Manager works collaboratively with clergy, the school principal, maintenance director, and parish staff to ensure efficient stewardship of parish resources in support of the mission of the Catholic Church.

This role encompasses a wide variety of responsibilities, including finance, accounting, human resources, facilities, development, communications, and compliance with Archdiocesan policies.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Maintain accurate bookkeeping, accounting, and budgeting for parish & school, including school tuition accounts

Process accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.

Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Oversee school tuition agreements and aftercare billing

Ensure compliance with Archdiocesan accounting policies and internal controls.

Provide reporting and recommendations to the Pastor and Finance Council. Provide monthly financial statements to Pastor and Finance Council and conduct quarterly Finance Council meetings with Pastor.

Attend quarterly archdiocesan bookkeeper meetings.

Human Resources

Manage personnel records, payroll, and benefits administration for all parish & school staff.

Provide guidance on HR policies, compliance with civil and church regulations, and risk management.

Facilities & Operations

Oversee facilities, maintenance, technology, and capital improvement projects in conjunction with Facilities Manager.

Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and staff to ensure safe and efficient parish operations

Supervise office procedures, purchasing, and inventory.

Stewardship & Development

Support parish stewardship and fundraising initiatives, including for special events/projects.

Ensure proper accounting and acknowledgment of contributions and donations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field strongly preferred.

Minimum 3–5 years of experience in business, accounting, or financial management; nonprofit or parish experience a plus.

Knowledge of accrual accounting, internal controls, and financial reporting.

Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and accounting systems (Archdiocesan systems such as ParishSoft, UKG, & FACTS preferred).

Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; collaborative and professional demeanor

Discretion in handling financial accounts, HR matters.

Full understanding and appreciation of the mission of the Catholic Church.

This position is based in the parish office and requires flexibility in balancing urgent and ongoing needs. The rhythm of parish life is dynamic, often requiring quick problem-solving and adaptability. Standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones are routinely used.

Full-time position

(40 hours per week)

Salary range:

$80,000-$85,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications
