This role drives best-in-class environmental, health, safety, security, emergency response, and medical programs. The manager will set direction, coordinate with other Ascend sites, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.**TARGETED OUTCOMES*** Partner with the company ESSH team to establish and implement ESSH strategy across Ascend.* Develop a multi-year ESSH strategy for the facility aligned with company objectives, driving Commitment to Zero injuries and releases.* Build strong cross-functional partnerships and position the ESSH team as a key contributor to success.* Implement performance metrics and rhythms to drive results.* Develop a capable ESSH team that partners effectively across the facility and leads ESSH programs.* Foster a culture of ESSH excellence, leadership commitment, and employee engagement.* Promote continuous learning, skill development, and process improvement to enhance ESSH performance.**RESPONSIBILITES***Strategic Leadership** Develop and implement sustainable ESSH policies and programs aligned with company objectives.* Lead organizational change initiatives in partnership with the Site Leadership Team.* Set objectives, manage personnel, and drive improvements in ESSH programs.* Provide leadership in Process Safety Management (PSM) and ensure alignment with regulatory standards.*Operational Excellence** Lead incident prevention efforts, root cause analysis, and behavioral safety initiatives.* Develop and track metrics to drive continuous improvement and compliance.* Maintain and support site VPP Star status, including OSHA audit coordination.* Oversee the Facility Security Plan and on-site contract security management.* Manage corrective actions and track progress for ESSH recommendations.*Collaboration and Influence** Build cross-functional relationships with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Training teams.* Influence without authority, solving problems and driving solutions across teams.* Participate in cross-site ESSH initiatives and share best practices.* Provide feedback on long-range plans for air compliance issues.*Training and Development** Manage the site ESSH team, fostering skill development and high performance.* Develop the ESSH team, providing continuous feedback and growth opportunities.* Promote employee and contractor engagement through ESSH education and awareness programs.* Drive knowledge sharing and development of ESSH management systems.**TEAM AND INTERACTIONS*** Reports to: ESSH Director, Chemical Operations and Process Safety (direct) and Site Director (indirect)* Direct reports: Site ESSH Team* Peers: Site Leadership Team (SLT), Site ESSH Leaders, Product Stewardship, and ESSH Program Manager**REQUIRED EXPERIENCE*** Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, engineering, science, or related discipline.* Minimum 15 years of ESSH experience within the chemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, or oil & gas industry.* Minimum 10 years of experience in ESSH leadership roles with management of direct reports.* Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.* Broad level of experience in safety and environmental aspects is preferred.* Operations or project management leadership experience preferred.**REQUIRED SKILLS*** Strong understanding of environmental, health, and safety standards.* Proven leadership and team-building capabilities.* Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.* Ability to influence and inspire across all organizational levels.* Proficiency in developing and executing strategic plans.* Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.* Competency with MS Office products.**DESIRED SKILLS AND CERTIFICATIONS*** Certified Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.* Training as a Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) Facility Security Officer (FSO).* Experience with Environmental Management Systems and ACC RCMS or RC-14001 standards.* Knowledge of incident investigation techniques (e.g., Cause Mapping, 5 Whys, FMEA).**At Ascend Performance Materials, we value transparency and fairness in our hiring process.
