Overview Instructional Faculty – Tenured/Tenure-Track position in Health Science at California State University, Long Beach (Long Beach, CA). Location: Long Beach, California.

Position Title: Assistant Professor of Health Science (Applied Artificial Intelligence in Health)

Work type: Instructional Faculty – Tenured/Tenure-Track

Unit: Unit 3 - CFA - California Faculty Association

Full-time, 12-month or appropriate academic year arrangement

Responsibilities

Teach in the Department of Health Science using techniques that support diverse student success (in-person, hybrid, online, or any combination).

Engage in interdisciplinary collaborative efforts.

Develop, maintain, and teach undergraduate and graduate curricular offerings, including accreditation-related activities.

Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students.

Maintain an active research agenda and disseminate research through refereed outlets and discipline-specific meetings.

Seek external funding to support the research agenda.

Contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts on campus, in the community, and in the profession.

Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.

Qualifications

Required: Doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., Dr.PH, DSc, MD/DO) in Public Health or a closely related field, including but not limited to Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Global Health, Population Health, Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, Digital Health, AI, Information Systems, Operations Research, Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, Computational Biology, Computational Neuroscience, or Computer Science with emphasis on AI, or a closely related discipline.

If the terminal degree is not in Public Health, the concentration, thesis, or research should be health-related.

Degree must be from an accredited institution and program.

Doctoral degree must demonstrate successful completion of doctoral-level coursework.

Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2026.

Demonstrated potential for teaching and/or developing courses in Health Science (e.g., AI in Health, Population Health, Data Science, Health Informatics, and related courses).

Demonstrated potential for conducting research, scholarly and creative activities.

Commitment to working with diverse student populations, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability or willingness to implement multiple teaching modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, synchronous and/or asynchronous online learning).

Knowledge of evidence-based teaching strategies effective for diverse learners.

Ability to develop interdisciplinary curricula in AI in Health.

Experience with interdisciplinary research collaborations.

Experience with external funding applications.

Willingness to provide service to the department, college, campus, and/or community.

Experience working with populations demographically or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body.

Experience mentoring or supporting students with minoritized identities and using inclusive, culturally relevant teaching strategies.

Teach in the Department of Health Science with a focus on student success in a diverse environment.

Mentor and advise students at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Maintain an active research agenda and disseminate findings.

Seek external funding to support research activities.

Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.
