Step 1: $57,435 - Entrance Rate Step 2: $61,851 Step 3: $64,061 Step 4: $68,482 Step 5: $75,107 Step 6: $88,359 Responsibilities: The MTA, New York City Transit (NYCT), Department of Security, is seeking talented, ambitious, and team-oriented candidates to join the Evasion and Graffiti Lawlessness Eradication (EAGLE) Team. The team’s core function is to ensure safe and secure passenger movement by protecting agency assets and maintaining a secure environment for all who work in, visit, or use the New York City Transit System. Members often work as part of a team and may take turns driving NYC Transit vehicles. The Fare Enforcement Unit’s mission is to ensure correct and timely fare payment on NYCT buses and respond to fare evasion activities on designated routes. The Vandalism Squad’s mission is to protect and prevent graffiti vandalism in train yards, lay-up areas, bus depots, parking areas, and other NYCT facilities, which could be exploited by criminals or terrorists. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Study and analyze incident data related to etching and graffiti vandalism. Conduct site investigations and assist in developing tactical plans to combat vandalism. Patrol train yards, lay-up areas, and bus depots. Verify the validity of customer receipts on NYC Transit revenue vehicles to ensure fare compliance. Perform surveillance on individuals boarding NYC Transit revenue vehicles without paying fare. Issue summonses to fare evaders and utilize resilience and de-escalation techniques with agitated customers. Investigate alleged fare violations. Coordinate activities with team members and other NYCT departments and NYPD. Testify at hearings and court proceedings regarding summonses issued. Assist customers with route and fare information and instruct on fare receipt issuance machines. Follow written instructions and directives accurately. Record daily activities and prepare reports. Perform special assignments as needed. Operate non-revenue vehicles. Maintain and repair security and video equipment, including cameras, network devices, and computers across NYCT facilities. Review electronic media for incident investigations on NYCT property. The selected candidates must be flexible to work nights, holidays, weekends, outdoors in all weather conditions, and at various NYC Transit facilities, including bus depots, train yards, and tunnels. Candidates should have at least two years of full-time investigative experience, including one year in the field. Education and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent plus two years of full-time investigative experience, with at least one year in the field; or Equivalent education/experience as above. Desired Skills: Five years of security or military experience preferred. Knowledge of fare evasion enforcement and summons issuance. Understanding of Penal Law related to property crime, vandalism, and fare evasion. Valid NYS Driver’s License. Excellent communication skills. Ability to obtain NYS security guard license. Familiarity with video recording equipment.
