STC is seeking a talented Support Scientist to contribute to the development of climate and atmospheric datasets utilizing Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Radio Occultation (RO) along with satellite-based Infrared (IR) and Microwave (MW) data. The role will involve advancing the integration of RO data with other satellite observations to enhance climate models and atmospheric analysis. The successful candidate will support research and operational projects that leverage RO’s precision in vertical profiling of the atmosphere, alongside infrared and microwave data, to improve climate monitoring and weather forecasting capabilities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on state-of-the-art data assimilation and development of climate datasets, contributing to global efforts in climate science and operational meteorology. Job Requirements

Climate and Atmospheric Data Development: Lead the development of climate and atmospheric datasets by integrating GNSS RO, satellite infrared (IR), and microwave (MW) data. Design and implement methodologies for fusing GNSS RO data with IR and MW satellite data to improve vertical profiles of atmospheric temperature, moisture, and pressure. Collaborate with research teams to process and validate satellite data products for climate monitoring and weather forecasting models. Data Integration and Assimilation: Develop algorithms for the assimilation of RO, IR, and MW data into global climate models and atmospheric reanalysis products. Contribute to the improvement of data assimilation techniques, with a focus on leveraging the unique characteristics of GNSS RO data in combination with infrared and microwave remote sensing. Collaboration and Research: Collaborate with scientists and operational teams to ensure that RO and satellite data are effectively integrated into ongoing climate research and operational models. Conduct original research in the field of GNSS RO and satellite remote sensing, contributing to peer-reviewed publications and presentations at scientific conferences. Data Product Development: Assist in the development of new data products and tools that enhance the understanding of climate variability, weather patterns, and atmospheric processes. Work with operational meteorologists and climate researchers to deliver actionable data products for both short-term forecasting and long-term climate analysis. Qualifications

Experience in interdisciplinary research environments, particularly involving satellite remote sensing, atmospheric data assimilation, or Earth system science. Extensive experience in processing and analyzing GNSS Radio Occultation (RO) data and/or satellite-based infrared and microwave remote sensing data. Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, Fortran, C++) and experience with climate or weather models, such as the Unified Forecast System (UFS), WRF, or similar. A deep understanding of data assimilation techniques and the physics of GNSS RO, infrared, and microwave remote sensing. Proven ability to conduct independent research and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in presenting complex scientific findings to diverse audiences. Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic research environment. Proactive attitude towards solving complex data processing and scientific challenges. Bonus Points If You Have: Experience in the development of climate datasets and their integration into global atmospheric reanalysis products. Familiarity with global climate models, such as the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP), or similar large-scale modeling frameworks. Strong publication record in climate or atmospheric sciences. Education

Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Climate Science, Remote Sensing, or a related field with a focus on satellite data and atmospheric modeling. We are equal opportunity/affirmative action employers, committed to diversity in the workplace. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status, or any other protected characteristic under state or local law.
