Senior Network and Computer Systems Administrator
to support this Program. The Telecommunications Support Program provides comprehensive IT and telecommunications services to the National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory (NVFEL). The Program aims to support the laboratory's mission of conducting emissions testing and ensuring compliance with federal emissions and fuel economy standards. The Program covers various services, including desktop management, data center management, enterprise connectivity, IT security, business support, and application services.
Duties: • Provide installation and maintenance support for all EPA servers. • Support all guest operating systems and servers installed on hosts, analyze system responses, and provide monthly system performance metrics (VMWare, Windows, Linux distributions). • Troubleshoot hardware and operating system issues, correct problems, rebuild systems, perform systems maintenance, and perform daily operational administration, monitoring, and optimization of server performance. • Manage Systems/Software/Patching via automated endpoint management solution, for patching and reporting on systems patches, patch testing, software deployment, reporting on systems patched, etc. (currently ManageEngine Desktop Central and Systems Center). • Maintain maintenance windows in the approved system monitoring tools to ensure system monitoring is paused for the duration of the maintenance period to properly reflect the approved Service Level Agreement (SLA) • Install and maintain applications on servers, such as Web applications and ETL processing applications. • Support shall include troubleshooting interoperability issues with other EPA standard applications, log analysis, and maintaining and upgrading the host hardware. • Monitor data center systems daily using tools like Nagios, Observium, Alienvault, Commvault, Acronis, Cylance, Lansweeper, and EM7. Propose and develop new solutions where needed • Managed and maintained Storage Appliances, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel Infrastructure • Optimize Cluster network topology to include fault tolerance and interface bonding • Manage resource allocations to ensure proper failover is possible in the event of host failure • Create and configure user accounts, groups, printers, and network shares/folders on a Windows Active Directory environment. • Perform backups, restores, and troubleshoot problems using Commvault, Acronis, and Windows backup systems on tape, DVD-RW, CD-RW, diskette, and network volumes. • Candidates must have the ability to obtain and maintain National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) level clearance. • Has applicable training and at least two (2) years of wireless network administration experience and hands-on knowledge/experience in managing, implementing, and securing Wireless Networks. • At least 3 years of LAN Administrative work experience • Have taken vendor Microsoft Windows Server Administration classes and have at least three (3) years of demonstrated experience in administering a Microsoft Windows 2012/2016 or later server-networked environment consisting of 10 or more servers operating a variety of networked applications. • Possess the skills necessary to install and maintain Microsoft, Unix/Linux-based web servers, and terminal servers. • Experience with the Microsoft Windows Active Directory 20/20 course and be able to administer an Active Directory environment. • Technical experience to configure, support, and troubleshoot all aspects of layer 1 (data cabling) and layer 2 (switching) of a TCP/IP network. • Experience with Cisco and Cabletron/Enterasys switching equipment. • Functional knowledge in the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and management of Cisco hardware. • Functional knowledge (installation, configuration, and operation) of all network operating systems (Microsoft Windows, Linux, and VMWare) and the security mechanisms employed by these operating systems. • Experience and the ability to identify (using tools such as Splunk) and diagnose systems (O/S, applications, hacks, etc.) and security issues, communicate changes required per site processes, and implement the changes with minimal impact on the user community. • Ability to terminate cables on a variety of jacks, panels, and terminal blocks. • Experience with backup and restores on the Windows, DOS, UNIX, and Linux operating systems. • Ability to install and support all aspects of computer hardware, such as hard drives, external media, fans, power supplies, controllers, system boards, processors, and memory. • Troubleshoot and correct basic problems for various printers, fax machines, and network scanners. • Able to replace toners and drum kits as required. • Ability to install, diagnose, repair, patch, and support various operating systems (Windows and all flavors of Linux). • Ability to create and distribute a standard image for new computers using Acronis. • Ability to install and support various Windows-based software applications and distribute them from the network when appropriate • Experience with centralized logging systems like Graylog, Splunk, or SIEM
Required Education and Certification(s): • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or Information Technology, or equivalent experience/combined education. • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification and/or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification
