Job Description Summary We are seeking a results-driven, visionary Senior Director, Software Engineering focused on delivering commitments to the business while leading efforts to transform and modernize the Software function across the Diagnostic Solutions portfolio. This leader will oversee software strategy, architecture, development, testing, and delivery—spanning full-stack solutions including Informatics, Enterprise Software, Instrument Applications, and Embedded Systems. As a key member of the R&D Leadership Team, you will drive the integration of multiple software teams into a single, high-performing organization, champion functional excellence, agile delivery, and the adoption of AI and automation to accelerate innovation and deliver value to customers. The ideal candidate will lead with empathy and authenticity, creating an inclusive environment where individuals feel valued, heard, and empowered to do their best work. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
Define and execute a unified software vision aligned with Diagnostic Solutions’ strategic goals Lead teams delivering innovative software solutions on key flagship products (BD BACTEC, BD COR & BD Synapsys, among others) and form them into a cohesive, collaborative organization
Software Delivery & Innovation
Oversee end-to-end delivery of software solutions across the product portfolio Drive excellence in architecture, development, testing, DevOps, and release management Champion AI, automation, and modern engineering practices to enhance productivity and innovation
Functional Excellence
Build and mentor a world-class software engineering organization Foster a culture of continuous improvement, technical rigor, and cross-functional collaboration Ensure teams have the tools, training, and leadership to thrive
Operational Excellence
Implement and scale agile methodologies and best practices across all software teams Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards in software development Collaborate with Product Management, Systems Engineering, and Quality to deliver integrated solutions
Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role Proven track record of leading large, distributed software teams in a regulated or high-tech environment Deep expertise in full-stack software development, including embedded systems, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications Strong understanding of AI/ML, DevOps, test automation, and modern software architectures Demonstrated success in driving organizational transformation and fostering innovation Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills Location: USA – Sparks, MD (primary work location listed). On-site presence and in-office collaboration aligned with company policy. Salary range: $181,400.00 - $326,500.00 USD annually. Why Join Us?
