Overview

Generation Engineering Supervisor (EPSE, Principal) at Seattle City Light. The Generation Electrical Engineering Team is looking for a licensed Professional Electrical Engineer with strong supervisory skills and a background in electrical generation to lead a team on Capital Improvement Projects and respond to Operation and Maintenance requests at City Light generation facilities. This role involves several NERC reliability standards and requires knowledge of Hydro Generation, Plant Automation, Relay Protection and High Voltage Equipment. The Electrical Power Systems Engineering Supervisor will oversee the engineering work of the team in planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of electrical equipment, controls and protections systems for electrical generating plants and transmission equipment at Seattle’s hydroelectric facilities. The position is overtime eligible and offers a generous benefits package. If the PE is from another state, you will have a year to obtain the Washington State PE by exam or comity. Travel to hydro generating facilities in Washington may be required. Reporting line: Manager of Electrical Engineering. Base pay range

$81.84/hr - $96.09/hr Responsibilities

Supervise electrical engineers, specialists and other professionals in the planning, design, construction, commissioning, operating and maintenance of hydroelectric generation facilities, general plant facilities, and other comparable projects. Work cohesively with other engineering supervisors and the unit manager to establish priorities and manage both O&M and Capital project activities. Coordinate the technical functions of various generation projects assigned to this work group. Participate in studies to determine the need and feasibility of proposed projects. Develop and present proposals for generation projects to gain approval. Cooperate with Project Managers to prepare budgets and schedules. Serve as a mentor to other electrical engineers providing guidance and support. Manage personnel matters, such as leave schedules, performance appraisals, hiring, and other administrative tasks. Manage NERC compliance with reliability standards, both Operation and Protection Standards and Cyber Security Standards that apply to Generating Plants. Make presentations and act as team leader on special projects as assigned. Qualifications

Education:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is required. A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for one year of non-supervisory, lead or management experience. Experience:

This job class requires a total of eight years' experience: Six years professional electrical power systems engineering experience equivalent to the Electrical Power Systems Engineer level, plus an additional two years supervisory, lead or project management experience to be a supervising Principal Electrical Power Systems Engineer. Certification/License: Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington is required. If you have a PE from another state, you will have a year to obtain your Washington State PE by exam or comity. Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility. Work Environment/Physical Demands

Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment. Field assignments may entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances, high voltage energized equipment and work in or near construction sites. May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Overnight travel may be required. Desired Qualifications

Experience working with hydroelectric generators and associated equipment, Supervisory Control, and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, protective relaying schemes, and high voltage equipment. Experience working on Plant Automation Systems, PLC programming and HMI development. The ability to perform relay coordination studies and design relay protection schemes for generators and transmission systems is highly desirable. Knowledge of and direct experience with the NERC Reliability Standards is desirable. Experience with and an understanding of good customer service standards. Good interpersonal, technical writing and oral communications skills. Willingness to learn and accept responsibility, comply with safety rules and regulations, work efficiently, effectively and independently.
