Job Description:
Summary: The Patient Access Representative in both Main Admitting and the Emergency Department are responsible for the comprehensive and compassionate collection of all demographic, financial and clinical information necessary to effectively register a patient for services at Ballad Health facilities. The Patient Access Representative completes the patient admission/registration process in the designated registration system, reviews for completeness and accuracy of data, obtains authorizations and signatures on all required documents and maintains patient confidentiality. The Patient Access Representative must be proficient in accessing the correct medical record number on each patient to avoid creating duplicate medical record numbers. This is monitored by weekly reports to management and tracking any occurrences of duplicate entries. Accuracy of data entry in order to avoid creating duplicate Medical Records, including overlays, is of utmost importance. The Patient Access Representative is responsible for verifying insurance eligibility and ensuring that all requirements, (i.e., referrals, pre-certifications, letters of medical necessity, etc..) set forth by third party payers are met prior to the registration of the patients for scheduled procedures and that appropriate information is available to case managers for follow-up on all inpatient admissions. Insurance verification must be obtained in a timely manner with emphasis on accuracy. The Patient Access Representative is also responsible for calculating and documenting required deductibles, co-payments and deposits and is further required to collect the patient's out of pocket expense at the time of service according to Ballad Health credit and collection policy. The Patient Access Representative will also be required to maintain daily deposits for the facility, answer billing questions for our walk-in patients, ability to accept and apply payments in the cash management system. They will also be required to enter discounts in the patient accounting system. All Patient Access Reps will be responsible to know facility specific process as there may be a difference at each location. The Patient Access Representative in the Emergency Department is also responsible for monitoring of the Emergency Department Tracking Board (EDTB). The Patient Access Representative will also be responsible for handling on call duties as required. It is also the responsibility of the Patient Access Representative to provide excellent customer service in all interactions with patients, families/visitors, physicians and their office staff, EMS, insurance carriers and other departments within the facility. Patient Access will have direct patient contact and interactions with the public.
Requirements: At least six months customer service experience required.
