Electrical Engineer - Alexandria, VA with Security Clearance
M.C. Dean is seeking a highly experienced and licensed Senior Electrical Engineer (Professional Engineer) to provide expert-level engineering oversight and support across a diverse portfolio of operations and maintenance (O&M) programs, including mission-critical government, commercial, and international projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead and review designs, develop and validate O&M procedures, perform root cause analysis for major issues, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. This role will serve as the senior electrical authority within the division, supporting data centers, secure facilities, and complex infrastructure with a focus on power distribution, critical systems, and integrated electrical/mechanical operations. Key responsibilities include: Lead and review electrical system designs, including low and medium-voltage power distribution, UPS systems, generators, grounding, lighting, and fire alarm interfaces. Provide engineering support for data center and critical facility operations, including troubleshooting, system optimization, and life-cycle planning. Develop, review, and validate O&M procedures, SOPs, and MOPs for critical electrical systems to ensure safety, reliability, and maintainability. Support major corrective maintenance and system upgrades, including review of scopes of work, sequencing plans, and contractor deliverables. Oversee or contribute to electrical testing and commissioning efforts, including coordination with vendors, 3rd-party testing agents, and customer stakeholders. Provide engineering oversight and quality assurance for secure construction projects overseas, ensuring compliance with DoD, DoE, or other federal standards. Step into senior program and project management roles as needed, supporting the execution of high-impact projects and initiatives. Participate in design-build and small-scale design efforts, creating or reviewing electrical drawings, load calculations, panel schedules, and one-lines. Conduct root cause analysis of electrical failures or incidents and recommend long-term corrective actions. Evaluate system resiliency and redundancy for mission-critical facilities, recommending improvements or upgrades as necessary. Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers, technicians, and site operations staff across the division. Support compliance efforts with NFPA, NEC, IEEE, NETA, and customer-specific standards. Participate in proposal development, including technical narratives, cost estimation, and system approach for new work. Coordinate with mechanical and controls SMEs to support holistic system assessments and cross-discipline engineering solutions. Maintain professional licensure and stay current with emerging technologies, codes, and industry best practices. Requirements: 7+ years of total work experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering; 5+ years of total work experience with a Master of Science degree in Engineering. Experience leading troubleshooting, commissioning, and testing projects in power systems. An understanding of Design, Construction, Operations, and Maintenance is required. FE required, PE license highly desired. Must be able to travel.
