Overview
Turn complex engineering into clear, usable documentation as a
Technical Writer
with GDIT. You’ll develop and manage the artifacts that enable Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) and related Navy tactical network capabilities with NIWC Pacific (Codes 55131/55132/55133) in support of PMW-160. From requirements and design through test, installation, cybersecurity accreditation, and sustainment, your work will make mission data understandable, auditable, and field-ready. What you’ll need to succeed (Required)
Security Clearance:
Active Secret clearance
Required Experience:
10+ years technical writing/editing for enterprise or tactical IT/network programs; strong portfolio of Navy/DoD documentation.
Hands-on with engineering and cyber artifacts (requirements, interface/data models, test procedures/reports, RMF evidence) and CDRL lifecycle management.
Proven accuracy with markings, CUI handling, distribution statements, and export-controlled content.
Skills/Tools:
MS Office (advanced Word/Excel), Adobe Acrobat/FrameMaker or MadCap Flare, Visio/draw.io, Jira/Confluence, SharePoint, CMPro (or equivalent), basic DOORS read/use, graphics capture/annotation.
Education:
BA/BS in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Information Systems, or related field (equivalent experience may substitute per GDIT policy).
Work Location:
Onsite San Diego, CA (NIWC Pacific). Limited CONUS/OCONUS travel to labs, shipyards, and fleet concentration areas per tasking and installation/test events
Position Availability:
Position is pending final contract award.

What we’d love for you to have (Desired)
Prior support to NIWC Pacific and/or PMW-160 (CANES/ADNS or similar Navy tactical network programs).
Familiarity with S1000D/IETM, MIL-STD/MIL-HDBK formatting, and DoDAF product sets.
Exposure to virtualization/network concepts (vSphere/ESXi, GPON, QoS) sufficient to interview SMEs and validate accuracy.
Experience preparing TRR/OTRR materials, CCRI audit evidence, and installation documentation for shipboard deployments.
Certifications: Shipley APMP (proposal writing), ITIL v4 Foundation, or Security+ (helpful for RMF artifact alignment).
