Overview
We’re seeking a skilled and proactive Assistant Chief Engineer to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of a Class A office building. This hands-on role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring high standards in maintenance, repairs, and team performance. In the absence of the Chief Engineer, this position will assume full operational oversight. Key Responsibilities
Building Systems Maintenance: Preventative maintenance and repairs of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems. Troubleshoot and repair A.C. circuits, outlets, switches, motors, and control systems. Maintain and operate chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, and energy management systems. Respond to emergency calls and perform remedial tasks as needed. Supervise vendors and ensure compliance with safety and performance standards. Prepare budgets for utilities, repairs, and capital improvements; monitor variances. Support and develop engineering staff; may supervise one or more team members. Assist in hiring, training, and performance management. Review work performed by junior engineers and provide guidance. Conduct inspections and maintain logs for critical systems. Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal protocols. Coordinate PTO schedules to ensure continuous coverage with Chief Engineer. Qualifications
Minimum 8 years of experience in building maintenance High school diploma or GED required Universal CFC license and strong understanding of HVAC and electrical systems Proficient in basic computer operations (spreadsheets, email, memos) Experience with heavy equipment: chillers, generators, switchgear, pumps, etc. Strong communication, customer service, and leadership skills Availability for after-hours and weekend emergencies (24/7 readiness) Base pay and benefits
Base pay range: $90,000.00/yr - $95,000.00/yr Additional compensation: Annual Bonus Seniority level
