Overview

My client, a full-service engineering and consulting firm specializing in providing technical solutions to the energy and public sectors, is looking for a Senior Substation Engineer with 8-10 years' experience, and a proven background in performing the design and engineering tasks associated with electrical utilities substation facilities. Responsibilities

Perform substantive role in substation design, preparation of specifications, administration functions or field engineering related to assigned engineering projects, using power system design software tools to develop construction documentation for substation facilities. Provide equipment specification, proposal evaluation and requisitioning; perform engineering calculations to assure safety and performance of equipment and systems; acquire on-site measurements and data to accomplish the design or monitor plant performance. Coordinate equipment delivery and design engineering to meet construction schedules; check completed work for adequacy of design and documentation; monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Act as Resident Engineer on projects of any magnitude; interpret complex plans and specifications to ensure all design requirements are satisfied; maintain familiarity with applicable engineering and construction codes and ensure compliance. Prepare and monitor complex construction schedules to ensure timely completion; institute and direct changes to the work as required by differing site conditions; conduct on-site design or investigation work to verify contractor methods. Receive, evaluate and approve contractor invoices; receive and inspect equipment to be installed on the project and approve for payment. Position Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred) or related field from an accredited university; Professional Engineer license is required. 8-10 years of experience in engineering of related projects. Strong understanding and knowledge of industry and national codes and standards including NESC, NFPA 70 (NEC), IEEE Standards and other applicable standards pertaining to substation design. Experience with system design software, CAD and Microsoft Office products. Strong analytical and management skills; experience with ground grid design of substations. Experience with power system software packages such as CAPE, Aspen Oneline, CDEGS, WingIS, SKM and ETAP, along with other software packages, strongly desired. Willingness to travel for site surveys, project scope walks and meetings.
