Purpose of the job: Plan, organize, and direct the work of the Technical Services Department. This includes overseeing acquisitions, collection development, serials, electronic resources, cataloging, and processing and repair of all library materials. Ensure that appropriate materials of all types are acquired and properly processed in a well-organized, efficient, and timely manner so that they are available to the faculty, students, and other users of the library. Coordinate the work of Technical Services with other library units to support Public Services and Archives by providing accurate, complete, and current cataloging of all materials. Responsibilities

Direct the Technical Services Department (20%) Select, train, and supervise technical and professional staff of the Technical Services Department (15%) Submit quarterly performance reviews of all Technical Services employees as per SEBTS HR requirements (5%) Ensure the complete and proper cataloging of all library materials according to authoritative international standards for maximum discoverability, including descriptive cataloging, subject analysis and classification of materials such as print monographs, electronic resources, microforms, books, serials, and archival materials (45%) Update and revise outdated cataloging to meet current standards (5%) Complete original cataloging of complex and diverse library materials (15%) Complete and oversee the copy-cataloging for common materials (25%) Label and prepare materials for integration into the library collection (5%) Supervise maintenance and improvement of the library’s online catalog and authority records (10%) Oversee the selection and acquisition of all types of materials in coordination with library staff (5%) Assist in developing and evaluating policies for library procedures and accreditation requirements (5%) Continue professional growth through conferences, training, coursework, and reading (10%) Other duties and responsibilities

Stay knowledgeable of current developments in librarianship, cataloging, collection development, and library automation Participate in the selection and weeding of library materials Participate in library assessment activities Oversee and direct the inventory process Contribute to organization and layout decisions for library collections Coordinate with outside agencies on cooperative agreements; identify and report cataloging errors in WorldCat Serve as a liaison to campus programs/offices and develop materials such as LibGuides Serve in public services as needed Supervisory responsibilities

Acquisitions Coordinator (FT) Collection Development Librarian (FT) Serials and Electronic Resources Librarian (FT) Processing, Binding and Repair Specialist (FT) Cataloging Assistant (PT) Knowledge and Skills

Required: Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution Thorough knowledge of cataloging, classification, and subject analysis using international standards (Library of Congress Classification, Library of Congress Subject Headings, RDA, MARC21) Knowledge of collection development and acquisition methods Analytical abilities to solve complex problems in cataloging, collection development, serials management, and acquisitions Excellent personnel management skills Preferred: Additional master’s degree in a theological field At least 3 years’ experience in technical services with increasing responsibility At least 2 years’ experience managing people Fiscal responsibilities

General oversight of purchase orders and invoicing; recommend payroll adjustments Extent of public contact

Communicate with faculty, staff, and students about materials; engage with colleagues at other institutions for professional guidance; represent the Library at conferences and events Physical Demands

Computer use and sedentary work; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; ability to inspect materials and cataloging records Working conditions and environment

Travel to annual conferences and workshops (e.g., ALA, AtLa, ACL); libraries and archives may have dust or mold exposure Job details
