$32.45/hr - $48.70/hr Major Responsibilities
Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as steam engines, boilers, air compressors, generators, motors, medical gas equipment, and other auxiliary equipment to provide utility services for a healthy and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures. Operates all campus heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment including boilers, steam absorption and centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, fans, pumps and systems in a manner that optimizes efficiency, safety, and occupant comfort per department policies and procedures with minimal to no guidance/assistance. Maintains accurate records and reports on all equipment startup, failures, problems, work in progress and completed work through logbooks and CMMS with minimal to no guidance/assistance. Advanced level of skill to utilize BAS as a tool for monitoring and controlling HVAC equipment. Responds to alarms in a timely and correct manner and optimizes operation using trending reports as appropriate. Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC and other equipment as assigned per established procedures, including inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, testing, flushing, minor repairs, rebuilding and replacing parts/components to ensure systems stay within operating parameters. Troubleshoots complex issues with HVAC equipment to determine root cause in a timely manner. Executes repairs or installations with minimal impact to the hospital and patient care. Requests assistance as warranted by the situation. Intermediate knowledge of medical gas systems. Responds to building occupant complaints in a timely and professional manner and communicates status of corrective action to requesters. Maintains current daily logs, preventive maintenance records and equipment repair files to comply with local, state and federal regulatory requirements with minimal to no direction. Performs routine general maintenance including painting, plumbing, carpentry, equipment testing and repair, ventilation, lighting, electrical, groundskeeping and snow removal. Documents all tasks and work time on the CMMS. Reads blueprints and maintenance manuals to gain knowledge needed to complete assignments. Helps facilitate small projects and acts as an informal resource for peers with less experience. Licensure, Registration, And/or Certification Required
Stationary Engineer license from the municipality of work location or Power Engineer certification (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th Class) from NIULPE or ASOPE. Equivalent certifications from federal organizations such as the United States Navy will also be considered. Valid Driver's License Education Required
Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of technical training. Experience Required
4 or more Years of Stationary Engineering Experience Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Advanced knowledge of applicable codes/regulations pertaining to assigned equipment and operations Advanced computer skills (CMMS, building automation, Microsoft Office) Strong communication and interpersonal skills Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, crawl, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs from floor to overhead, up to 50 lbs from floor to chest level, and carry up to 50 lbs at waist height a reasonable distance. Must be able to push/pull with 50 lbs of force. Exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards; knowledge of safety precautions. Position requires travel and may involve road/weather hazards. Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job. This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent. Incumbent may be required to perform other related duties.
