Senior Mechanical Engineer - Advanced Power Generation. Location: Chicago, IL; Denver, CO. This is a staff position with Black & Veatch Family of Companies. Responsibilities

Design mechanical systems supporting Conventional and Renewable Power Generation. Collaborate with design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad. Perform all aspects of mechanical system design engineering and analysis for assigned systems. Act in a senior-level engineer capacity, including: Understand client interests and drivers through client contact and project leadership interaction. Assign tasks to and coordinate with other internal/external team members on complex projects. Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Understand, manage, and adhere to project budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Team and Scope

The Mechanical Engineering Department is a global team delivering high-quality, on-time design and services across Power, Gas, Fuels & Chemicals, Water, Data Centers, and Mining, including Mechanically related Process and Power projects (from Conventional, Combined Heat and Power, Hydro, Hydrogen, Nuclear, Solar/Renewable, LNG, Ammonia, Fertilizer) and specialized systems such as Air Quality Control, HVAC, Fire Protection, Piping, and Thermal and Renewable performance estimating and testing. Black & Veatch’s Power Providers focuses on energy generation markets, enabling sustainable energy solutions through collaboration with utilities, independent power producers, and other entrants. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program or equivalent engineering experience. Minimum of 11 years related work experience. Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and support where necessary. Certifications

Experience in Simple and Combined-Cycle plant design. Condensate and Feedwater systems knowledge. Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Natural, and/or CO2 gas supply systems. Cooling water, including closed-cycle systems. High Pressure / Intermediate Pressure / Low / Auxiliary Steam systems. Instrument and/or Service Air Systems. Demineralized (DM) water supply and make-up systems. Service and Potable water supply systems. Performing calculations such as pipe sizing, pipe thickness, pump sizing, control valve sizing, heat exchanger sizing, and atmospheric tank sizing. Work Environment and Schedule

This position typically operates in an office environment with potential site visit tasks. The role may involve prolonged sitting and computer use, with occasional physical tasks during site visits. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments. Salary and Benefits

Salary Plan: REG (Registered Engineering). Job Grade: 017. Annual compensation range: $156,288.00 – $261,008.00.
