General Job Description
MPR is seeking Lead Electrical Power Engineers for full-time positions at our Alexandria, Virginia, East Lyme, Connecticut, and Burlington, Massachusetts offices. Our engineers bring energy, passion, and curiosity to solve unique and challenging problems for clients across utility, commercial power, and federal services sectors. Successful candidates will contribute to and lead projects involving design, analysis, specification, test, modification, and failure investigations of power systems and equipment. Projects span distributed energy resources, renewable energy sources, commercial nuclear, new nuclear (fusion / fission), grid modernization, transmission and distribution facilities, substations, and petrochemical and steel facilities.
MPR adapts to client needs, framing problems into workable technical and managerial solutions. For over 50 years, MPR has been relied upon for specialty engineering solutions developed with integrity and technical excellence. Duties/Responsibilities
Planning and leading electrical power system analysis and design efforts, including mentoring engineers through execution of the work.
Engagement with clients including engineering, management, maintenance, and quality teams.
AC and DC electrical power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, and transient stability studies.
AC and DC power system alternatives evaluations and root cause failure investigations for power system components.
Evaluations and calculations demonstrating compliance with applicable NERC, ISO, and NRC regulations.
Design, procurement, testing and installation of excitation systems and voltage regulation systems for synchronous machines, including:
Specifying equipment performance requirements and evaluating capabilities against those requirements.
Considering design constraints including electrical performance, mechanical fitup, interface with existing controls, and environmental factors.
Oversight of equipment procurement and design verification testing.
Development of equipment design submittals including drawings, qualification reports, manuals, and review evaluations.
Oversight of equipment installation and commissioning.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from an ABET-accredited university.
Technical Skills and Experience
At least 5 years of work experience in electrical power systems.
Strong analytical skills with understanding of fundamental engineering principles including electricity, magnetism, and three-phase power.
Familiarity with, or ability to quickly learn, industrial design standards, codes and regulations including IEEE standards and NERC regulations.
Experience using electrical analysis tools to develop solutions (examples: MATLAB, ETAP, EMTPRV, PSCAD, ANSYS).
Experience specifying, designing, and developing design verification test programs.
Ability to collaborate with engineers from diverse backgrounds to deliver multi-disciplinary solutions.
Desire and capacity to work in a dynamic environment on several diverse projects.
Operational Naval Nuclear Power experience is a plus.
Skills - Personal
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients and senior management.
Ability to lead and motivate project teams, encourage teamwork, manage change, and make timely, effective decisions.
Motivation to tackle new problems, take on new responsibilities, and work on diverse projects.
Strong time management and organizational skills.

Travel
As required by project assignments, estimated 10% – 20%.
