Consultant Microbiologist / Clinical Lead - North East England
Triple West Medical have been appointed by an NHS Trust based in North East England to help recruit a Consultant Microbiologist for a substantive post, but will also consider a Locum Fixed Term Contract for 12 Months minimum. There is also an opportunity for the right candidate to be the Clinical Lead and Deputy Director of IPC working closely with the Medical Director. The NHS Trust delivers integrated acute and community health services to a population of around 550,000 across multiple sites and is committed to delivering the highest standard of care and treatment to their patients and to consistently improve the overall patient experience. The Consultant post in Infection (Medical microbiology or Medical Microbiology and infectious diseases) advertised is tenable on a full time basis (10.4 programmed activities). The post is a replacement post and the appointee would share the work of the department with the current substantive Consultant Microbiologists, Specialist and Specialty Doctor in Microbiology. Brief Duties / Responsibilities: Liaison with clinicians, hospital staff and GP`s concerning the diagnosis and management of patients and prevention of infection. Liaison with Public Health England and Health Protection Unit to manage infections and notification of notifiable diseases. This is a full time post and an agreed job plan will be established within 3 months of successful candidate starting employment. The appointee, once employed may wish to consider making certain clinical areas as their primary responsibility if they have an interest or expertise in those areas. Provide appropriate advice and result interpretation on the tests performed within the department. Attend and contribute to weekly antimicrobial ward rounds and daily ITU ward rounds Implementing an on-going medical audit programme within the department and participating in multi-disciplinary clinical audit. Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings as required. Current opportunities include C diff MDT, OPAT MDT (Outpatient antimicrobial therapy), Ortho MDT, and Endocarditis MDT To provide medical input and oversight of policies, procedures and guidelines produced with microbiology, or those produced by other departments that impact on microbiology. The substantive post will involve working with the Consultant colleagues and infection control nurses to deal with day to day infection control management across the Trust. Active involvement in investigation of infection control incidents and in action planning and implementation to reduce hospital acquired infection is expected. There will be a need to be involved in root cause analysis following infection control incidents. There will also be a need to be involved in decontamination issues. To be involved in all aspects of the day-to-day operation to UKAS standards of the Clinical Microbiology laboratory with appropriate technical support Our Client is happy to issue Certificate of Sponsorships to suitably qualified overseas doctors.
