Hoke Hospital Location: Raeford, North Carolina Department: Emergency Medical Services Job Family: Professional Work Shift: Variable (United States of America) Summary: Lead Paramedics are assigned to Operations. Depending on current assignment: This employee supervises and coordinates EMS resources assigned or dispatched to an assigned geographical area. They ensure that on-duty personnel and equipment are maintained in a state of readiness and that staff members consistently perform in compliance with their position description and with the policies/procedures of the department. Performance is evaluated in cooperation with Shift Supervisor, Training Officer, Assistant Chief of Operations, EMS Chief and Medical Director by observation and through review of records and reports. They may also serve in command position during mass casualty incidents or prolonged operations. Lead Paramedic may also rotate to position of Paramedic Supervisor during his/her absence. Minimum of (2) years experience as a Paramedic with CCEMS. Must have three (3) years licensed driving experience in North Carolina or the equivalent. Current certification by the State of North Carolina as a Paramedic. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) as sponsored by American Heart Association. Certification in "Advance Cardiac Life Support" (ACLS). Certification in "Pediatric Advanced Life Support" (PALS). Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 & 800. NIMS 300/400 required within six (6) months of assignment. All certifications must be maintained continuously while employed. Must possess and maintain a current North Carolina driver's license and acceptable driving record. Thorough working knowledge of emergency medical procedures, rescue techniques, hazardous materials incidents, equipment and supplies employed in pre-hospital care, and of communications equipment used. Thorough knowledge of the state, federal and local rules/regulations pertaining to ambulance systems. Thorough knowledge of current emergency medical transportation service needs of the county; thorough knowledge of techniques and procedures involved in rendering professional medical care and transportation. Thorough knowledge of Cumberland County geography, particularly locations of major streets, buildings, hospitals, doctors' offices; and the ability to read road maps rapidly and accurately while under stress. Knowledge of and the ability to apply correctly, the policies and procedures of the EMS Department. Ability to supervise departmental operations, subordinate staff, and communicate with all levels of employees in a composed and responsible manner; and the ability to act in the capacity of a paramedic while reviewing the performance of other advanced life support personnel. The ability to perform under stressful conditions and to maintain leadership of the department under these conditions. Ability to deal tactfully and firmly with the general public, other county, and/or city personnel. Ability to drive all types of ambulance vehicles and a thorough knowledge of safe driving procedures used in the response of emergency vehicles. Ability to learn, understand, and apply additional training and education; determine need for and recommend in-service training/education; for the purpose of increased efficiency of the subordinate staff. Ability to use EMS type communications systems; communicating effectively and coherently within the confines of those systems. Is knowledgeable of the age specific physiological, psychosocial, developmental and spiritual needs of the patients typically served. Hearing, speaking and visual acuity are required. Must possess the ability to operate an emergency vehicle emergency and non-emergency traffic. Must possess the ability to move around numerous physical locations, some within confined areas. Must possess the ability to lift heavy objects, up to 150 pounds, with assistance and to assume awkward positions in emergency situations.
