Overview
We are seeking a skilled professional to perform a range of laboratory tasks essential for cytogenetic analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of specimens throughout the processing phases and conducting various culturing, staining, and analysis procedures. Responsibilities
Ensure specimen integrity during all phases of processing. Perform culturing procedures, including establishing blood, bone marrow, and biopsy cultures; monitor growth levels and make decisions regarding feeding, subculturing, and harvesting. Conduct slide preparations and staining techniques such as standard Giemsa, Q-, R-, C- banding, and NOR staining. Perform detailed microscopic analysis and rule out chromosomal mosaicism; make decisions regarding optimal cells for documentation and operate automated karyotyping equipment. Execute FISH processing and analysis. Manage record-keeping, maintain stock supply levels, orient new personnel in the lab, institute new procedures, and continue education programs. Apply cryogenic technology in specimen storage when necessary. Coordinate specific functions with laboratory personnel according to the job description. Manage quality control of culture apparatus, including monitoring CO2 levels in incubators, CO2 supply, periodic disinfection of incubators, maintenance of hoods, and monitoring of liquid N2 levels. Stay informed about research and development within the cytogenetics field. Perform validation studies for new test development and participate in the compilation of validation data. Report any problems that might adversely affect patient care to supervisory personnel. Utilize effective LIS and equipment data management skills. Qualifications
Ability to sit for extended periods during analytical procedures and stand for long durations during harvest procedures. Manual dexterity and the ability to work in an area containing biohazardous materials, along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Responsibility to work in a safe manner, with the ability to stoop, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds. Additional Details
