Clinical Laboratory Technologist
for a 6-month contract opportunity with a leading biotechnology company in Seattle. The incumbent will be responsible for processing medically relevant biological samples through
DNA extractions ,
PCR amplification , and
high-throughput next-generation DNA sequencing
assays. This position involves working in a
high-production clinical laboratory setting
to process
research
and
clinical diagnostic samples
for patients, oncologists, healthcare providers, and researchers. High attention to detail and a clinical mindset are crucial to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Perform
DNA extractions
,
PCR amplification
, and
high-throughput sequencing assays
on DNA libraries.
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as
liquid handling robotics
and
DNA sequencers
.
Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies (
GxP, FDA, ISO, GMP, GCP, GLP
) and model appropriate clinical, regulatory, and safety practices.
Keep accurate and detailed records for all workflows following
Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
.
Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and ensure proper documentation.
Enter and track data in a
Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
.
Lead
and provide guidance to less-experienced team members and offer
training/competency assessments
.
Troubleshoot assay or instrument issues
and provide relevant information to the supervisor to assist in corrective actions.
Record and manage
nonconformances
for all appropriate errors.
Ensure efficient laboratory operations by suggesting improvements to existing processes and protocols.
Maintain
continuing education
credit requirements to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
Exhibit excellent communication skills, effectively communicating with the team to facilitate handoff procedures and project updates. Scope/Impact for Clinical Laboratory Technologist II
Perform and provide
broad support
for DNA extractions, PCR amplification, or high-throughput sequencing assays.
Provide
guidance to junior staff
and assist with
training
or
competency assessments
on molecular methods.
Handle
clinical judgment
tasks requiring initiative and suggest improvements to increase workflow efficiency.
Demonstrate deep knowledge of laboratory procedures and
explain technical information
effectively.
Regulatory responsibilities
in compliance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Qualifications Required :
Bachelor's degree
(or higher) in
life sciences
(e.g., biology, molecular biology, chemistry, or related field).
At least 1 year
of experience working in a
high-complexity clinical molecular laboratory
(e.g., CLIA-certified).
Minimum 3 years of pertinent molecular laboratory experience
(with
2 years minimum at a Master's level
).
Expertise in
DNA extraction
,
PCR
,
qPCR
, and
next-generation DNA sequencing
(NGS).
Experience working with
human blood, tissues, and/or cells
, and handling biohazardous materials.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams. Preferred :
ASCP(MB) certification
.
Experience in a
clinical, high-throughput environment
.
Experience with
laboratory automation
and
best practices
.
Familiarity with
LIMS
(Laboratory Information Management Systems).
Ability to work
independently
and as part of a team in a
dynamic environment
