Overview
Assistant Superintendent in Training
– Position Summary: The Assistant Superintendent in Training will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Director of Agronomy to learn all aspects of golf course maintenance and management. This is a hands-on position designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, equipment operation, and crew supervision. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with a passion for the golf industry and a strong desire to grow into a leadership role. Responsibilities
Turfgrass Management:
Assist in the daily maintenance of all turf areas, including greens, tees, fairways, and roughs. This includes irrigation troubleshooting, applying fertilizers and pesticides under the direction of the Superintendent. Irrigation Systems:
Learn to operate, troubleshoot, and repair the irrigation system. This includes performing routine checks, adjusting watering schedules as needed, and assisting with repairs to pipes, heads, and controllers. Equipment Operation:
Safely operate a variety of golf course equipment, including mowers, tractors, and aerators. Crew Supervision:
Learn to effectively lead and manage a small team. This includes assigning tasks, ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard, and promoting a safe and positive work environment. Course Preparation:
Assist in daily course setup, including changing pin placements, moving tee markers, and preparing the course for tournament play. Project Management:
Participate in special projects, including drainage installation and landscape improvements. Record Keeping:
Assist with maintaining accurate records of chemical applications, weather conditions, and daily maintenance tasks. Safety Compliance:
Adhere to and promote all safety protocols and procedures, including the safe handling and storage of chemicals. Qualifications
Education:
A degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field is preferred. Candidates currently pursuing a degree will also be considered. Skills:
Strong work ethic and a positive attitude. Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Basic knowledge of turfgrass management and an eagerness to learn.
Requirements:
Must have a valid driver's license. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. A pesticide applicator license or a willingness to obtain one is required.
