The Public Works Engineer and Projects Manager, under general direction of the Director of Public Works, coordinates, plans, implements and supervises engineering functions for the County of Muskegon. This employee develops, plans, and coordinates improvements to the regional water system, solid waste infrastructure, facilities grounds and structures, and other departments as assigned. The Public Works Engineer and Projects Manager assists the Director in the general administration of the Department and assumes responsibility for departmental operations during the absence of the Director. 1. Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related field;

AND 2. Have 3 years' experience as a Professional Engineer in the fulltime practice of civil or environmental engineering or closely related field; 3. Possess a current Professional Engineer license; 4. Ability to obtain a S-2 water distribution system license within 4 years; 5. Possess a valid Michigan driver's license. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES An employee in this class performs generally sedentary work activities requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS An employee in this class generally works within the administrative offices of the Department of Public Works, although travel to other County and State locations may be required. EVALUATION CONTENT

The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
