We deliver intuitive, differentiating technology solutions and partner with customers on turnkey solutions that are easy to buy and use. The Team: Just Walk Out (JWO) enables checkout-free shopping using the Amazon Go app. Our technology uses computer vision, sensor fusion, and machine learning to track products in a virtual cart, charge customers automatically after they leave, and provide receipts. We are building advanced, scalable systems across computer vision, ML, distributed systems, and hardware design. Key job responsibilities: We work in a highly collaborative, startup-like environment where team members wear many hats and tackle problems across domains including computer vision, image recognition, machine learning, real-time processing, and distributed systems. Role emphasis: As an Applied Scientist, you will solve technical challenges, mentor other scientists, and collaborate with multiple Amazon teams. You should be comfortable with ambiguity and solving problems that have not yet been solved at scale, while learning, having impact, and delivering value to millions of customers. A key focus is developing and implementing advanced visual reasoning systems that understand complex spatial relationships and object interactions in real time, designing autonomous AI agents that make decisions from visual inputs, understanding customer behavior patterns, and adapting to dynamic retail environments. This includes scene understanding, object permanence reasoning, and predicting customer intent through visual cues. 3+ years of experience building models for business applications PhD, or Master’s degree plus 4+ years of CS/CE/ML or related field experience Experience with patents or publications in top-tier peer-reviewed venues Experience programming in Python or a related language Experience in at least one of: visual reasoning, generative AI, transformers, multi-modal models, video analysis, action/activity understanding Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing and implementing visual reasoning systems that understand complex spatial relationships Experience in AI agent architecture design, decision-making frameworks, and behavioral modeling Experience with advanced computer vision techniques (scene graph generation, visual relationship detection, spatial reasoning) Knowledge of modern visual-language models and multi-modal AI systems Experience implementing reinforcement learning for autonomous agent behavior Experience in professional software development EEO Statement: Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
