Position Overview

The Emergency Response Technician is primarily responsible for identifying, executing and maintaining compliance with the plant Fire Protection Systems as well as the Plant Fire Brigade and Spill Team. This position serves as the Plant Fire Chief leading the on-site Fire Brigade as well as the Spill Team Incident Commander. Job Duties and Essential Functions

Serve as the plant Fire Brigade Chief. Organize, lead, and maintain records of all Fire Brigade training. Partner with internal and external stakeholders to execute live burns and other emergency response training drills. Partner with Facilities, Security and Safety personnel to maintain compliance with all plant fire protection systems including but not limited to fire pump system, risers/PIVs, sprinkler and other fire suppression systems, fire alarms system, and portable extinguishers. Maintain good working relationship with local emergency planning coordinators and Fire Marshall for compliance and auditing. Ensure compliance with plant emergency generator and fire pump systems testing requirements. Perform fire extinguisher training for plant employees as needed. Partner with other functional areas to review and investigate emergency response incidents and identify corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. Plan and coordinate initial and annual refresher spill training (HAZWOPER - Level A, Level B) for spill team members and incident commanders. Oversee quarterly spill team drills. Perform monthly and annual supplied air bottle audits and refill and replace as needed. Work with external vendors for fire system and equipment maintenance, repair and testing. Maintain compliance with maintenance and cleaning of Fire Brigade turnout gear. Perform and coordinate monthly and annual inspection of portable extinguishers. Perform annual inspection and testing of plant fire hose. Partner with Plant Nurse and Facilities Safety Coordinator to ensure compliance with plant respiratory protection program in regard to training, medical evaluation and fit testing. Must be available to respond to off-hours calls as needed. Job/Skills Requirements - Required Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED 10+ years’ experience in a dedicated fire or emergency response role. Demonstrated ability to lead and function calmly and effectively in high-stress situations, including response to site emergencies. Ability to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on best available information. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interface at all levels of the organization. Must be able to see, hear, speak, and move about a manufacturing environment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to apply grip strength and use mechanical tools. Must be able to perceive heat and cold. Must maintain a significant level of cognitive function to solve complex problems. Must possess the ability to wear tight fitting respiratory protection and pass an NFPA firefighter physical. Job/Skills Requirements - Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s or associate degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in fire science, emergency management, or related fields preferred. North Carolina Firefighter I and II Certifications. NMIS 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 700, 800 HAZMAT Operations Certification or equivalent HAZWOPER Training This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $57,947.00 - $79,678.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
