Classification Summary
Under close supervision of the Community Center Director, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and operations of the Ruidoso Community Center. This position is designated as non-exempt from FLSA.
Job Title Summary This position reports to the Community Center Manager. The Community Center Technician is responsible for maintaining the Community Center. This position also sets ups and breakdowns each room based on events/classes at the Community Center. This position also performs janitorial duties, minor building maintenance, and otherwise attending to the neatness and sanitation of the Community Center. Under general supervision also provides a wide variety of office support including customer relations, data entry and other clerical duties. This position is responsible for answering the main phone and assisting or directing all walk-in patrons to the right personnel. Duties and Responsibilities

The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position Cleans and maintains the Community Center and related facilities include changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, shampooing, steam cleaning, stripping, waxing, polishing, buffing floors, carpets, and furniture. Dumps trash cans and garbage and reline cans with liners. Cleans and Sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies. Cleans spills, drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures. Washes windows, walls, metal, and woodwork. Cleans kitchen, including stoves, ovens, grills, vent hoods, dishwasher, etc. Performs preventative maintenance on building and equipment. Uses excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public. Assists with the cooking and cleaning, including preparing entrees for weekly lunches, breakfasts, and barbeques. Ability to operate, clean, and maintain ovens, grills, stoves, dishwashers, etc. Answers phone, serves as a receptionist, and provides departmental information to outside agencies and the general public. Performs a wide variety of clerical support duties, which may include, but is not limited to, data entry, filing, making copies, screening telephone calls, creating forms, creating flyers, sending letters, preparing documents, notices, scheduling appointments, and assisting department with paperwork. Research, compile, and summarizes a variety of information to prepare periodic and special reports as directed. Maintains a high degree of public contact. Setting up chairs and tables for classes and events. Assists in setting up drink stations and coffee stations. Assists with picking up time sheets and entering data into the RSVP program database. Assists with RSVP recognition and training events. Must be well-organized and able to multi-task. Enforces policies and procedures for the Community Center. Must be able to deal courteously and positively with the public. Adheres to safety practices and standards, attends safety meetings and trainings. Other Responsibilities or Job Requirements Ability to recognize and keep confidential information private. Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with good time management skills and flexibility. Ability to handle and prioritize a variety of assignments and meet deadlines. Completes personal timesheet accurately and timely on a bi-weekly basis. Ensures time is reported based on actual time worked. Attend meetings, training, and workshops as needed. Ensures computers are backed up once a month and adheres to Village of Ruidoso IT Policies. Adheres to all Village of Ruidoso's policies not limited to IT, Purchasing, and Personnel Manual. Ability to operate modern office equipment including computer equipment. Ensure that any on-the job injury is reported immediately and followed up with appropriate forms and actions. Reports any suspected fraud and/or abuse to the Community Center Manager or Director of Parks and Recreation. Ensure any reports of harassment are immediately reported and appropriate actions are taken. Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent. Must maintain a high level of computer abilities and keep up with changing technology. Excellent Customer Service skills and proper phone etiquette are required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills are required. Computer abilities within a Windows software environment required. Must be able to pass criminal history checks. Must be willing to take and pass a drug/alcohol test and comply with Village "Drug Free" Policy. Must possess and maintain valid New Mexico motor vehicle operator's permit of appropriate classification and endorsement as required. Must agree to maintain a satisfactory MVR and minimum requirement of insurability as required by law. MVR background checks will be conducted by the Village. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Frequently climbs to heights of 12' or higher to clean windows and replace lighting. Frequently lifts and/or move up to 80 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Work Environment Work is performed inside and outside the Community Center. May work an irregular schedule, long hours, nights, weekends, split shifts and holidays. May be called when needed. Travel Requirements
Limited travel - ability to travel for activities such as classes, and workshops in and out of the service area. Overnight travel as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to : to follow verbal and written instructions; to work in stressful situations with members of the public, as well as other Village employees; to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public; operate and use janitorial equipment including vacuums, mops, brooms, dusting equipment, and floor machines; maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include standing or walking for extended periods of time; drive occasionally; perform duties and adapt to flexible work schedules as established by management; work in stressful environment and deal effectively with stress.
Skill in : communications with and handling confrontational customers; operating building maintenance tools and equipment such as floor and carpet cleaning machines, and vacuum cleaners.
Knowledge of:
Building maintenance includes housekeeping and janitorial procedures and ability to operate the related equipment while following safety practices & guidelines; janitorial products and application procedures to ensure public safety.
