IMS Recruiting is seeking a
First Article Inspection (FAI) Specialist
for a leading aerospace manufacturer. This role is critical to ensuring compliance with
AS9102 standards
and supporting manufacturing excellence. The FAI Specialist will be responsible for performing and documenting first article inspections, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving quality assurance in line with aerospace industry requirements.
About the Role
The FAI Specialist will play a key part in
ensuring aerospace components and assemblies meet customer and regulatory specifications , while supporting audits, continuous improvement, and quality initiatives. Key Responsibilities
Perform
First Article Inspections (FAIs)
on aerospace components and assemblies in accordance with
AS9102 Rev. C . Create, review, and maintain
FAI reports
(Form 1, Form 2, Form 3). Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and suppliers to resolve discrepancies and gather documentation. Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical data packages (GD&T, ASME Y14.5). Use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, CMMs, etc.) to verify dimensional conformance. Record/document non-conformances and support
root cause analysis
and corrective actions. Ensure
traceability of materials, special processes, and certifications . Support audits (internal, customer, regulatory) with FAI documentation. Submit completed FAI packages to customers via
Net-Inspect . Qualifications
Required: High school diploma or GED (Associate's or technical degree preferred). 1-2+ years of
FAI or Quality Assurance experience
in aerospace or defense. Strong knowledge of
AS9102 Rev. C
and aerospace quality standards. Proficiency in reading/interpreting
engineering drawings and GD&T . Skilled with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, CMMs, etc.). Experience with
CMM software
(PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, etc.) is a plus. Proficiency in
MS Office
and FAI tools (Net-Inspect, InspectionXpert). Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Preferred:
Experience in
AS9100D-certified environments . Knowledge of special processes (anodizing, NDT, welding, heat treat). Understanding of
supplier quality and PPAP/FAI submissions . Certifications in Six Sigma, Lean, or Quality (CQI, CQT). Why Join? Work with a
