Job Description: Classified Paraeducator - Behavioral Support (Tier 3)
Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient
Classified Paraeducator
to provide intensive
Tier 3 behavioral support
to students with significant social-emotional and behavioral challenges. This role is crucial in helping our most vulnerable students manage their behavior, develop coping skills, and succeed academically and socially. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, comfortable collaborating with professional staff and parents, and skilled in managing challenging student behaviors.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support and Behavior Management
Provide direct, intensive, one-on-one and small-group support to students identified for
Tier 3 behavioral interventions . Implement student
Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
and individualized support strategies as directed by the case manager (e.g., Special Education Teacher, School Psychologist). Utilize
de-escalation techniques
and positive behavioral interventions to manage challenging behaviors, ensuring a safe learning environment for all students. Collect and accurately record
behavioral data
to monitor student progress and the effectiveness of interventions. Facilitate
social-emotional small groups
focused on teaching coping strategies, emotional regulation, and appropriate social skills. Communication and Collaboration
Maintain
strong, professional communication
with general and special education teachers, administrators, and support staff regarding student progress and behavioral issues. Comfortably and effectively
communicate with parents/guardians
regarding their student's daily behavior, progress toward goals, and support strategies. Actively participate in team meetings (e.g., IEP, SST, behavior team) to provide input on student needs and intervention effectiveness. Supervision and School Duties
Provide consistent, effective
student supervision
during non-instructional times (e.g., lunch, recess, transitions) to proactively identify and address potential behavioral issues. Oversee after-school detention
as assigned, maintaining a structured, quiet, and productive environment. Required Schedule and Qualifications
Schedule
Hours:
9:00 AM - 4:30 PM (7.5 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break). Work Year:
Follows the school district calendar. Essential Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (AA degree or successful completion of a Paraeducator assessment preferred). Demonstrated experience or training in working with children or adolescents, particularly those with
challenging behaviors
or special needs. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills , with the ability to maintain composure and clarity in high-stress situations. Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and maintain strict
confidentiality
regarding student information. Physical ability to perform the duties required of the position, which may include assisting with physical restraint as necessary (following approved training/protocol) and moving quickly to address safety concerns.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: MENTAL DEMANDS Required to deal with a wide range of student, staff and public behaviors and needs in a positive and service-oriented manner. May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students or parents. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Amount of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and twisting will vary depending on the age of students and classroom assignments. Physical capabilities also require lifting and carrying (no more than 50 lbs.) pushing and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and significant finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires approximately 35% sitting, 35% walking, and 30% standing. Maintaining good hygiene is essential.
