Allemployees hired after September 1, 1986, must be residents of Shelby County andshall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment. The residency requirement shall notapply to certain public safety/civil service employees. This means exemption from this policy is ineffect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy PatrolOfficers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department,(2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3)Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County FireDepartment. The residency exemption forpublic safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions withSheriff's Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.

Position Summary

Worksunder general supervision to perform a variety of entry-levelclerical/administrative duties that may require the use of limited independentjudgement and skill in processing, communicating, creating, and/or maintainingvarious records, files, and information regarding specific departmentalfunctions.

Pay Grade: 41H

Minimum Qualifications

1. Two (2) years of experience in appropriate clerical, bookkeeping, data processing or statistical work; AND

2. High school diploma or possess a GED; OR

3. One (1) year of appropriate clerical, bookkeeping, data processing or statistical work experience and one (1) year of college study (30 semester hours or 36 quarters).

4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Prepares correspondence,forms, manuals, schedules, and reports.

2. Compiles pertinent data asneeded when preparing various reports.

3. Initiates and maintains physical and computerized departmental files for all employees and applicants including verification ofcompleteness of files.

4. Processes requests forofficial records, including maintaining log of requests for records.

5. Maintains confidentialityof information.

6. Makes decisions regardingwork and various types of records requiring the use of independent judgment.

7. Relieves or assists otherclerical employees in assigned work areas.

8. Performs other duties asassigned.

1. Ability to preparereports, proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word software applications.

2. Ability to plan, organizeand maintain an even flow of work.

3. Ability to spell,punctuate and use grammar correctly

4. Ability to compose generalcorrespondence, write, and type documents for a variety of needs.

5. Ability to exerciseindependent judgment and decision-making.

6. Ability to deal tactfullyand courteously with others.

7. Ability to performaccurate mathematical computations.

8. Ability to express ideasclearly, concisely and effectively, verbally and in writing.
