Job Title: Support Mechanic
Job Location: Coronado, CA
Salary: $33.57/hr. plus up to $4.89/hr.
Clearance: Secret
Purpose: To assist in maintaining, diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, monitoring, and reporting the material status and maintenance requirements of assigned Combatant Craft Mediums (CCM) and associated equipment to ensure each detachment can operate effectively.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Provide diagnostics, troubleshooting support, and repair for equipment such as diesel engines (preferably MTU), reduction gears, auxiliaries, propulsion systems, and their sub-assemblies including engine electronics, fuel, lubrication, starting, steering, electrical distribution, bilge dewatering, cooling, fire suppression, and hydraulic systems for CCM, prime mover, trailer, and related equipment.
Assist and provide technical recommendations to the Government regarding CCM maintenance and repair, focusing on preventative maintenance systems.
Maintain and repair tires, batteries, brakes, valves; conduct shop management functions like maintenance scheduling, spare parts inventory control, and estimating labor, materials, and equipment needs.
Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures; repair and maintain diesel and gasoline engines; adjust and repair ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and steering systems.
Maintain chassis, frames, bodies, and work with hoisting and jacking equipment, power tools, gauges, meters, and lubricating equipment.
Perform repairs in both shipyard and workshop environments as required.
Utilize specialty tools such as torque wrenches, timing and fuel rack adjustment tools, feeler gauges, and other specific tools for routine maintenance, diagnosis, and repair activities.
Assist Government personnel in preparations and transport of CCM, including movement of supporting equipment for contingency response and logistical support at various locations both CONUS and OCONUS.
Meet requirements to deploy and travel with CCM detachments both within the US and overseas, maintaining a valid passport and SECRET security clearance.
Possess a class “A” license to operate the CCM prime mover with trailer and craft attached.
Qualify to operate various government-owned vehicles and equipment, including Class A Tractor Trailer with HAZMAT endorsement, forklift up to 20,000 pounds, and have experience with power plant operation (30K/60K generator).
Coordinate with Troop or Maintenance Department Chain of Command on all CCM safety and operational procedures.
Requirements Qualifications:
Experience with welding operations and supporting qualifications for repairs of CCM and related equipment.
Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
Basic understanding of SMAW, GTAW, GMAW welding processes.
Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, fiberglass, and hull repair.
Familiarity with military publications, technical instructions, and electrical/engineering illustrations.
Military experience or understanding of US Navy protocols is preferred but not mandatory.
Experience maintaining diesel engines, gasoline engines, chassis, and lubricating systems.
