The Medical Coding Specialist - Inpatient reviews documentation in the electronic medical record and assigns and sequences ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes, in accordance with the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and in compliance with ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines and other regulatory requirements. The Medical Coding Specialist will have experience in Critical Access Coding, to include Inpatient, Observation, Surgery, Emergency, Laboratory, Radiology, Infusions and other Outpatient procedures. Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Certified Coder preferred Education:
High school diploma or equivalent and graduate of or currently enrolled in a Medical Coding Program. In lieu of a Medical Coding education, an active coding certification is required. Graduate of Health Information Technology program is preferred. Experience:
One year of progressive inpatient facility coding experience. Certified Coding Associate (CCA) Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), within one year of hire. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred. Seniority level
