Intern, Operations Strategy Engineer
The Intern, Operations Strategy Engineer assists with research, design, and develops capacity and demand planning models to improve ABF Freight's forecasting, costing, and operational efficiencies. Responsibilities include understanding costing inputs and methodologies and providing operational guidance for ABF Freight's shipment level costing model. The intern will research and evaluate new technologies, methods, and equipment to enhance operational efficiencies and reduce cost. Other duties and projects, as assigned, include mathematically modeling and providing internal guidance on network capacity and demand trends. Utilizing knowledge and understanding of the quality process, Lean Six Sigma, and the ability to apply tools or technology in business cases is required. The intern will learn relationships between company assets and current and projected business levels, including equipment, labor, technology, and facilities. Performing ad-hoc projects on analytics as required by VP's or other department heads and evaluating measurement systems for the continual improvement of ABF Freight's processes and procedures are also part of the role. Education: Currently pursuing a degree in engineering or other equivalent technical field, required. Experience: No prior experience necessary. Computer Skills: Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, SQL, and other tools to execute analysis and manage projects. Additional Requirements: Understanding of engineering principles and statistical concepts. Competencies: Active Learning, Flexibility and Adaptability, Initiative, Interpersonal Relationships, Managing Multiple Priorities, Problem Solving. Work Hours: This is a part time internship position that will average fewer than 30 hours per week. Typical hours will fall between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with occasional irregular hours depending on workload. Compensation: This is a hourly position paid weekly.
