Performs magnetic resonance imaging in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization. Responsibilities include charging appropriately for all supplies used for procedure and utilizing appropriate exam codes. When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. Takes on call shift responsibilities as required by the department. Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes acquisition parameters and resulting sequences and identifies issues with the quality of images. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and/or repeating images/sequences in conjunction with interpreting physicians and standard protocols. Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. Maintains MRI Safety in accordance with safety recommendations outlined by the American College of Radiology and hospital policy. Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. Competencies include accountability, cardiac monitoring, customer service, MRI safety, patient and family centered care, patient positioning and procedures, responding to change, and standards of behavior. Education and certification requirements include an accredited program in imaging, ARRT American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), BLS American Heart E-Card, BLS Certification Grace, and BLS Cert Red Cross. Additional job information includes the complexity of work, which requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Required work experience is no previous experience required. Must be registered in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or registered as a Technologist (ARMRIT)- Advance Registry MRI Technology within one calendar year of hire. Additional education info: Graduate of an accredited imaging program.
