Job Title: Interventional Radiology Technologist Profession: IR Tech Specialty: Procedural Assistant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum 1 year in Interventional Special Procedures setting in either IR and/or vascular hybrid setting License: ARRT Radiography Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) - Instructor required upon hire Must-Have: - Competency in all aspects of interventional/vascular procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection. - Understanding of anatomy and pathology and their impact on the quality of procedures. - Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English language. - Positive attitude is essential. Description: Functions under the direction of the clinical coordinator and/or department manager. The interventional special procedures technologist assists in providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients. This role involves performing all exams according to departmental procedures. The technologist is responsible for obtaining quality diagnostic studies safely and effectively. They perform a wide variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. The technologist sets up equipment for imaging services and positions patients for procedures. They are capable of performing procedures in both the IR and vascular hybrid interventional procedural settings. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Clinical Skills - Completes necessary competencies. - Utilizes critical thinking skills. - Collaborates with radiologists, vascular surgeons, and cardiologists. - Prepares patients for procedures and demonstrates understanding of sterile technique. - Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for each procedure. - Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedures. Departmental Responsibilities - Remains flexible with hours to meet departmental needs. - Works scheduled and on-call shifts as required. - Understands existing lines of communication and authority. - Introduces self to patients and/or guardians properly. - Transports patients as needed, maintaining privacy and comfort. - Assists in maintaining departmental records, compliance standards, and performance improvement. - Completes necessary paperwork and answers departmental calls appropriately. - Maintains stock levels and ensures items are not outdated. - Keeps current licenses and BLS certifications. - Assists in training other medical imaging staff as needed. - Works as part of a team to achieve optimal outcomes. - Performs other duties as assigned by leadership. Quality and Patient Safety - Verifies patient identification using two patient identifiers. - Verifies front of patient chart for same/similar name sticker. - Confirms written orders and consents, seeking clarification when necessary. - Utilizes pre-procedural verification and timeout forms appropriately. - Complies with site/side marking when indicated. Patient Education - Responsible for educating patients and their support systems. - Provides post-procedural home care instructions as needed.
