Responsibilities
- Essential Functions: Participate in teaching courses; evaluate student achievement; develop curriculum, policy and procedures; assess program outcomes; develop and maintain administrative records; operate equipment; maintain professional relationships with staff, the public, and agency personnel.
- Teach the Phlebotomy course content to train individuals in the required techniques and safety practices, including infection control, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, patient identification, skin puncture site preparation, blood collection equipment and additives, post-puncture care, waste disposal, biohazards, anti-coagulation theory, pre-analytical error sources, and related laboratory procedures.
- Provide FERPA-compliant handling of sensitive information; maintain confidentiality and student privacy.
- Other duties as assigned.

Supervision, Environment and Requirements
Supervision: Typically not supervising others; may train or orient new personnel and assign work to student workers; reports to the Dean of Health Professions and the Associate Dean/Director of Nursing.
Physical Demands: Indoor work with normal office conditions; ability to sit/stand for extended periods; ability to lift up to 25 pounds; assist with patient positioning; work safely.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to recall, analyze and synthesize information; problem-solve and communicate effectively; convey information clearly in English; demonstrate emotional stability; foster respectful relationships; ensure student success and alignment with Lane’s mission and strategic goals; ability to follow inclusive and diverse practices.
Required Experience and Licensure/Certification:
- Two (2) years in a laboratory environment as a phlebotomist.
- Six (6) months of adult instructional experience.
- ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or Phlebotomy Technician.
- Current CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers and First Aid or ability to obtain prior to employment.
Conditions of Employment:
- Criminal background check required; evaluations on a case-by-case basis.
- Must reside and work in Oregon while performing duties.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Phlebotomy Instructor Certification; bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Experience with instructional methods and accreditation procedures; ability to teach effectively at the appropriate level.
