Financial Data Analyst (Finance)

Position Overview

A successful Financial Data Analyst must be passionate about healthcare and want to make a difference in the lives of others while acting as a mission-driven catalyst to help Livingston Community Health (LCH) deliver the best quality of care and excellent service to our patients and their families.

The Financial Data Analyst supports the financial health and strategic goals of the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) by analyzing financial, operational, and clinical data to produce actionable insights.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

This role is responsible for developing dashboards, conducting in-depth financial analysis, preparing reports for leadership, and supporting budgeting, forecasting, and grant compliance. The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of healthcare finance, particularly in a community health setting.

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze financial performance across clinics and service lines, including revenue, expenses, payer mix, and provider productivity.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cost per visit, net revenue per provider, encounter volume, and clinic profitability.
  • Create and distribute financial reports for leadership, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.

Dashboard Development

  • Design, build, and maintain financial dashboards using Power BI, Tableau, or Excel.
  • Automate recurring reports and visualizations to improve efficiency and real-time access to critical data.
  • Track trends related to visit volume, service utilization, reimbursement patterns, and grant performance.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning

  • Assist in annual budget development and multi-year financial forecasting.
  • Develop scenario models for new programs, clinic expansions, or reimbursement model changes.
  • Support variance analysis and monthly financial reviews.

Grant and Program Support

  • Collaborate with the grants and program teams to monitor spending and compliance with grant restrictions.
  • Provide financial reporting and data for federal, state, and private funding sources.
  • Assist with data needs related to HRSA Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting and Operational Site Visits (OSVs).

Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Work with operational and clinical leaders to evaluate performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Support Revenue Cycle, Quality, and Population Health initiatives with financial and utilization data.
  • Translate complex data into clear presentations for non-technical audiences.
  • Supports the overall needs of the organization by working flexible or extended hours when necessary.

Data Integrity & System Alignment

  • Ensure accuracy and consistency between financial, EHR, billing, and reporting systems.
  • Partner with IT and Data/Reporting teams to validate and optimize data sources.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Health Administration, Data Analytics, or related field, Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in financial analysis, preferably in a healthcare or nonprofit setting.
  • Experience working with electronic health record (EHR) and practice management systems (e.g., eClinicalWorks, NextGen) is ideal.
  • Familiarity with FQHC finance, including PPS reimbursement, managed care contracts, and UDS reporting is ideal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A solid understanding of the principles of accounting, finance, and economics.
  • Financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting practices.
  • Data analysis methods, statistical concepts, and financial modeling.
  • Industry-specific regulations, compliance requirements, and policies - Knowledge of HRSA requirements and federal grant compliance.
  • Use of financial software (e.g., Excel, SAP, Oracle, Hyperion, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Basic SQL or data querying skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, macros, and complex formulas.
  • Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong written and verbal communication to present findings clearly.
  • Data visualization and reporting skills using BI tools
  • Analytical and critical thinking for evaluating complex financial data.
  • Research skills for gathering and interpreting economic and business data.
  • Problem-solving and solution-oriented thinking
  • Time management and prioritization of competing deadlines.
  • Translate financial data into actionable business recommendations.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities from large data sets.
  • Prepare clear, concise reports and presentations for stakeholders.

  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive information.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting strict deadlines.

  • Ability to travel between clinic sites.
