Position Details
Position: Heavy Equipment Operator
Reports to: AFR Site Manager
Shift: Monday to Friday 3:00pm-11:30pm
Pay: $23/hr

Job Responsibilities
The Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, material handlers, and loaders to move materials to support a shredding operation. This position safely drives and maneuvers equipment into position for unloading trucks and loading and dumping materials. The position stockpiles material at the facility’s storage building and hauls shredded materials to load trailers. The Heavy Equipment Operator works rotating shifts.
- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Operates and loads equipment safely, responsibly, and proficiently to move raw material to and around the facility while observing all safety rules.
- Operates assigned equipment to feed material into the processing system.
- Lubricates equipment with greases and oils and performs minor repairs.
- Conducts daily equipment inspections, monitors and maintains fluid levels, and visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment
- Organizes and plans maintenance each day. Prepares for scheduled maintenance.
- Follows established traffic patterns, avoiding road hazards and other hazardous conditions.
- Listen for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discuss machine operation variations with supervisors/other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repair machines
- Maintains good housekeeping throughout the facility.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on the system
- Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts.
- Assist mechanic with basic service and repairs.
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements
To succeed in this position, you will need:
- High school graduation or equivalent is required
- Minimum 2 years experience operating heavy equipment - load and/or haul truck, or related
- Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Willingness to learn, training will be provided
- Ability to operate equipment with high competency, skill, and proficiency.
- Mechanical knowledge of equipment used, machines, and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Shredding, mobile equipment, and/or cement manufacturing experience preferred.
Work Environment
Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
