Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in New Haven, CT. This hands-on role involves performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, dozers, cranes, forklifts, and pay haulers. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced port environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Perform equipment overhauls and component replacements.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
  • Collaborate with team members to support operational efficiency.
  • Mentor junior technicians and apprentices.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in hydraulic system repair.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in diesel engine maintenance (preferred).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull 50+ lbs, climb heavy equipment, bend, kneel, and work overhead.
(Preferred but Not Required)
  • Own basic mechanical tools.
  • CDL.
Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)
  • Basic Automotive Tire Service (ATS) - Tire Industry Association (TIA): Covers tire mounting, balancing, puncture repair, and safety procedures for passenger and light truck tires.
  • Certified Earthmover Tire Service (ETS) - TIA: Specialized training for servicing off-the-road (OTR) tires, including large equipment, safety protocols, and advanced repair techniques.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Must be comfortable working in environments with noise, dust, and extreme temperatures.
