The immediate vacancies are located in Halawa to Kalihi, Downtown, and Manoa to Kahala. One of the positions is for Temporary employment in Manoa to Kahala.

Shift Work: For some of the immediate vacancies, applicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

This recruitment will be used to fill current temporary full-time and permanent full-time vacancies.

Note: Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months. Once you become a member of the civil service, you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions.

Supervises and participates in keeping assigned buildings and building areas clean and orderly, including heavy lifting, cleaning places and equipment which are not easily accessible, simple building repair work, and operating industrial-type cleaning equipment; and performs other related duties as assigned.

To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK REQUIREMENT: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • General Experience: TWO (2) YEARS of janitorial or related custodial work such as sweeping, dusting, and cleaning of buildings.
  • Supervisory Aptitude: Applicants must possess Supervisory Aptitude.
  • Driver's License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Federal Criminal History Records Check: In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the airport, must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check.
