This position is part of the Disposal group within the Solid Waste Management Division, reporting to the Solid Waste Program Manager and working with other Solid Waste Facilities Managers to oversee landfill gas, leachate, environmental compliance and monthly monitoring for active and closed landfill facilities. The team manages Wake County’s South Wake Landfill, landfill gas and leachate systems, closed landfill monitoring, a transfer station, recycling programs, convenience centers, and public outreach and education initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Oversee landfill gas, leachate, and related environmental compliance and monitoring activities for active and closed landfill facilities.
- Collaborate with the Disposal group and Solid Waste Program Manager to ensure safe, compliant operations.
- Coordinate with Facilities Design & Construction for major capital projects related to waste management infrastructure.
- Engage in public outreach, education initiatives, and coordination with stakeholders as needed.
- Support the management and custodianship of South Wake Landfill facilities, transfer stations, and associated programs.
Required Education and Experience (The Basics)
- Bachelor\'s degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering or related field
- Three years of experience in solid waste management
- Valid Driver\'s License and a safe driving record
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Preferred Education and Experience (Beyond the Basics)
- Professional Engineer license

- Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 8:30am - 5:00pm with rotating on-call
- Hiring Range: 75,109 - 105,157
- Market Range: 75,109.00 - 135,202.00
