Overview
The Unit Secretary, under the direction of the Clinical Manager/Charge Nurse, Staff RN, or LPN provides indirect patient care. This individual meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff, and medical staff. The Unit Secretary prepares and compiles medical records, as well as orders and stocks basic office supplies for the unit. It is expected that as needs arise, he/she will be flexible and float to other units. In addition to participating in performance improvement activities, the Unit Secretary works cooperatively with the medical and hospital staff who support the care of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Responsibilities
The Unit Secretary supports unit operations by maintaining medical records, handling orders, and stocking office supplies. Flexibility to float to other units and participation in performance improvement activities are expected.
Qualifications
- A. Education
- 1. High school diploma or GED from an accredited institute required
- 2. Obtains at least 12 hours of continuing education; a minimum of six hours must be specific to assigned area of nursing
- B. Experience
- 1. Experience preferred
- 2. Basic computer experience
- C. Licensure/Certification
- 1. CNA in the state of Georgia preferred
- 2. Health Unit Coordinator certification desirable
Compensation and Benefits
Pay Range: $16.80 - $25.20
