A growing manufacturer of precision hydraulic and pneumatic components is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to join their team at their 70,000 sq. ft. facility in the western suburbs of Chicago. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives on the shop floor, enjoys solving real-time production challenges, and wants to drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced machining and assembly environment.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable working with machinists and assembly technicians as they are at a CAD station designing tooling or evaluating processes. You'll play a key role in supporting both machining and assembly operations-from developing fixturing to programming Swiss CNCs to troubleshooting and improving production processes.
What You'll Do:
- Spend approximately 50% of your time on the floor supporting active production
- Design fixtures, jigs, and tooling to optimize machining and assembly
- Program and troubleshoot Swiss-style CNC machines (G-code required)
- Support process validation, pilot runs, and capital equipment justifications
- Lead process improvements and root cause investigations for quality issues
- Collaborate with production teams and engineering leadership to drive results
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or process engineering role
- Strong understanding of machining and/or assembly processes
- Hands-on experience with Swiss CNC programming (G-code required)
- Familiarity with CAM software such as Mastercam, Edgecam, or Esprit
- CAD modeling experience (Inventor preferred; SolidWorks or Creo also accepted)
- Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (Bachelor's or Associate's)
- Experience in a precision machining or hydraulic component manufacturing environment
- Exposure to lean manufacturing principles, FMEA, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Proficiency with basic inspection tools (micrometers, calipers)
- CNC Machines: Kitamura, Doosan, Sugami (Swiss), Takamaz, Brown & Sharpe
- CAD/CAM Software: Autodesk Inventor, Mastercam, Edgecam, Esprit
- Measurement Tools: Micrometers, calipers, standard inspection equipment
- Base salary: $85,000-$90,000 (based on experience)
- Bonus: Annual, 1-3% based on company performance and tenure
- PTO: 2 weeks to start (negotiable based on experience)
- Shift: 1st shift, with occasional flexibility as needed for production support
