Nature and Scope:

Provide complete design/analytical engineering for major projects on specific engine programs including planning, scheduling and coordination of all related activities. Perform engineering duties on new or varied problems where objectives are stated and limited design or development data exists.

Knowledge:

A thorough knowledge of standard engineering principles. Familiarity with Solar/Turbomachine as well as commercial and military specifications. In-depth understanding of manufacturing, quality control, design and analysis techniques as related to gas turbine engines or heat recovery equipment.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develops welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals.
  • Conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures.
  • Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements.
  • Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.
  • May direct and coordinate technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards.
  • Performs experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
  • Strong knowledge on applicable Welding Codes such as AWS, API and ASME.
  • Conducts Material and Weld Failure investigation.
  • Facility Weld Quality Plan Steward.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor-level degree in Welding Engineering, or BS in another disciple with significant experience in Welding Engineering.
  • Experience (5 yrs. Minimum) in the application and technical aspects of welding (joining), robotics, and related manufacturing experience.
  • Experience (5 yrs. Minimum) using engineering specifications and standards and various industry welding specifications.
  • Experience with robot or automated welding equipment and manufacturing automation systems including offline programming or like programming experience.
  • Experience leading project teams focused on meeting NPI schedules.
  • Strong background with welding processes such as: Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master Degree in another disciple with significant experience in Welding Engineering.
  • Certified Welding Inspector ( CWI) certification.
