Program Sports 254021 - Camp Counselor, Sports
Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers.
Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.
Essential Functions
- Ensure the safety of the children enrolled in the program.
- Document and respond to all participant incidents.
- Maintain essential records, including attendance sheets.
- Complete required reports.
- Maintain current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and BBP Blood Borne Pathogens.
- Provide guidance and assistance during activities.
- Prepare and follow assigned curriculum.
- Maintain discipline of children.
- Ensure necessary supplies, including First Aid and BBP protective equipment.
- Maintain rapport with parents and participants.
- Ability to read, write, and understand written directions.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- High school Diploma or GED required.
Experience
- Previous experience working or participating in any sports program.
- Previous work experience working with children is preferred.
Certification(s) And Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must complete concussion training prior to working in a sports-related activity.
- CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire.
- Must receive ODJFS (Ohio Department of Job and Family Services) licensing certification within 30 days of hire (for licensed camps only).

- Ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.
- Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect.
