Program Sports 254021 - Camp Counselor, Sports

Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers.

Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

Essential Functions

• Ensure the safety of the children enrolled in the program.
• Document and respond to all participant incidents.
• Maintain essential records, including attendance sheets.
• Complete required reports.
• Maintain current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and BBP Blood Borne Pathogens.
• Provide guidance and assistance during activities.
• Prepare and follow assigned curriculum.
• Maintain discipline of children.
• Ensure necessary supplies, including First Aid and BBP protective equipment.
• Maintain rapport with parents and participants.
• Ability to read, write, and understand written directions.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• High school Diploma or GED required.

Experience

• Previous experience working or participating in any sports program.
• Previous work experience working with children is preferred.

Certification(s) And Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must complete concussion training prior to working in a sports-related activity.
• CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire.
• Must receive ODJFS (Ohio Department of Job and Family Services) licensing certification within 30 days of hire (for licensed camps only).

• Ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.
• Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect.
