Job Title: Plant Maintenance Technician
Department: Maintenance
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Location: American Fork, Utah
Job Summary: The Plant Maintenance Technician at Thrive Freeze Dry in American Fork is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of the company's facilities, including industrial and production machinery. The role involves performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on industrial machinery, production machinery, and building systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
- Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments as necessary.
- Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and resolve issues.
- Adhere to and enforce safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Monitor and manage spare parts inventory and maintenance supplies.
- Support the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
- Read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Demonstrate safe work habits and follow general safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques, ergonomics, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assists in training of plant maintenance technicians.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
- Additional duties as assigned.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
- Comply with the Environmental Health Safety & Security (EHS&S) policies and applicable regulatory and company EHS&S rules and requirements.
- Report to supervision conditions or practices that are either unsafe or that may adversely impact the environment, to ensure prompt resolution of potential hazards.
- Attend scheduled EHS&S training program.
- Actively support the organization’s efforts to meet or exceed EHS&S goals and plans.
- Recommend improved EHS&S practices.
- Practices safe work habits and follows general safety procedures such as proper lifting and bending, ergonomics, proper use of equipment and use of personal protection equipment (PPE).
- Adheres to and ensures lockout procedures are followed any time the equipment is being cleaned or maintained.
PRODUCT SAFETY AND QUALITY
- Place high priority on food safety, quality, and sanitation by understanding and executing Thrive Freeze Dry’s food safety, quality, and sanitation policies and procedures.
- Hold self and others accountable to Thrive Freeze Dry food safety, quality, & sanitation guidelines and policies by communicating any food safety or quality incident, observation, or opportunity to your leadership team or teammates.
- Adheres to and ensures Product Safety and Quality standards are followed.
- Adheres to and ensures GMP’s regarding food contact packaging as it pertains to the employee.
- Adheres to and ensures Thrives food safety, product defense standards and quality objectives complies with all SQF system requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three years related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Craft apprenticeship or equivalent years of experience. Preferred: Experience with PLC and HVAC.
- Experience with ammonia preferred.
- Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
- Consistent and reliable attendance.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities and attention to detail.
- Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Must have a high degree of mechanical aptitude.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks over a 12-hour period.
- The job is performed under occasional temperature variations and in a food manufacturing production environment.
- Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees.
- The ability to lift to 50 lbs. is required.
