We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Forklift Technician Trainer to join our training program for new, beginning and intermediate level forklift technicians. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in forklift maintenance and repair, excellent communication and presentation skills, and a passion for teaching and/or mentoring others.
This role is essential in advancing students’ careers in material handling equipment, maintenance and repair and ensuring employees meet customer and industry standards for technical skills, safety and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver comprehensive training sessions covering forklift systems, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair.
- Instruct students in both classroom and hands-on settings, ensuring understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Create presentations materials, instructional aids, case studies and hands-on activities to ensure student engagement.
- Demonstrate proper diagnostic and repair techniques using industry-standard tools and equipment.
- Maintain training equipment, tools and training areas ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
- Stay current with industry trends, new technologies and equipment, and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with other instructors and staff to continuously improve curriculum, incorporate new technology and training delivery.
- Support students in the field and their career development.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in diesel/automotive technology, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a forklift technician.
- Certified Forklift Technician (e.g., through Toyota, Hyster-Yale, Raymond, etc.) preferred
- Strong understanding of electrical and electronic diagnostics equipment (Scan tools, oscilloscope, multimeter, etc)
- Prior teaching and/or mentoring experience is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of forklift systems including internal combustion engines, electric motors and controls, batteries, hydraulics, brake and steering systems, and electronics.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching style to diverse learning styles.
Working Conditions:
- Combination of office, classroom and workshop environments.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and operate forklifts and diagnostic equipment.
- Occasional travel during the week for off-site training and curriculum development.
- Limited weekend travel for occasional seminars/industry events for professional development.
