Please note: The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed the salary range listed above.

This position is with the East Construction Crew. The base office is located at the Eastern Regional Office, 2901 Highway 61, Festus, Missouri. The shift is Monday through Thursday (four 10-hour days per week), 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break. Work assignments are located over a large geographic area of Missouri that will require travel and overnight stays during the work week, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights.

Responsibilities include:

  • Complete skilled work assignments in multiple building trades: painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, roofing, drywall, heating and cooling, and all phases of concrete work
  • Perform material estimating and make material purchases, as needed
  • Perform manual work requiring heavy lifting, reaching, and bending, and also be able to climb and work at heights, such as roofs
  • Operate various equipment such as a loader or skid steer

This position may be required to obtain and maintain appropriate commercial operator’s license, water/wastewater certifications, and/or other required licenses/certification. If required and if you do not currently possess this license/certification, you will be given six months to obtain the necessary license/certification.

To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

  • Building and Construction: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings
  • Learning: Uses efficient learning techniques to acquire and apply new knowledge and skills; uses training, feedback, or other opportunities for self-learning and development
  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance
  • Plumbing and Pipefitting: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to install, maintain, or repair pipelines, pipe systems, and fixtures, including water, air, steam, gas, chemicals, or sewage
  • Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations

Equivalent to those typically gained by four to six years of on-the-job training in a variety of trade areas, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete, and masonry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair.

Preferred Qualifications/Special Requirements:

  • Ability to understand and complete assignments received orally or by written orders from sketches, penciled layouts, or blueprints
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand/power tools
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work independently
  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license
  • Must be able to travel and stay overnight during the work week, i.e., Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights
