Overview
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Responsibilities
- HUD-VASH is an intensive case management program for chronically homeless veterans aimed at providing psychosocial services to veterans while residing in stable housing through HUD's housing choice voucher system.
- The incumbent in this position functions as the Case Manager for the Manchester VAMC's Housing and Urban Development / VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH).
- The incumbent is responsible for providing case management for a caseload of veterans in the HUD-VASH program.
- The incumbent is responsible for reviewing agreements between the veteran, the landlords, and the Public Housing Authorities to assure that the HUD-VASH placement site remains a permanent housing option for veteran.
- Administrative Duties: The incumbent will, as appropriate, supervise the practice of social work students, or a less experienced social worker. The incumbent will participate in committee assignments, as deemed necessary by the Director of Mental Health Social Work. The incumbent works with VA Medical Center multi-disciplinary teams and community agencies to strive for developing more effective and efficient ways of delivering healthcare services to HUD-VASH Program veterans.
- The incumbent verifies the veteran's status, eligibility for VA medical care, and eligibility of program participation. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that homeless veterans are considered as primary participants for program acceptance.
- The incumbent is responsible for providing HUD-VASH case management. Case management is defined as the provision of services by VA clinical staff to homeless veterans and includes all activities to provide appropriate treatment and maintain veterans in HUD approved stable housing. The incumbent performs site visits of HUD-VASH apartments to ensure that veterans reside in safe environments in compliance with local housing codes.
- The incumbent is responsible for conducting and completing psychosocial assessments to determine needs of veterans and family members, and to be an active participant in the treatment planning process with other disciplines. The incumbent will participate in discharge planning with other disciplines and will be responsible for ensuring that discharge plans are executed in a timely and appropriate manner.
- The incumbent takes responsibility for improving professional skills, participating in planning and executing specific staff development projects, attending seminars and participating in training programs of other disciplines as requested. The incumbent will maintain familiarity and responsibility for all performance measures relating to the HUD-VASH Program.

- Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.
- Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
- Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full-time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
