We are seeking experienced and motivated
Public Works Inspectors
to join our team in Redwood City. This is an excellent opportunity to become a key member of our public works inspection team. We offer immediate on-call and part-time employment opportunities.
Job Responsibilities:
Inspect public works construction sites to ensure compliance with specifications, city standards, regulations, and safety conditions.
Review project plans and specifications for completeness, accuracy, and compliance; recommend improvements as needed.
Interpret engineering plans and specifications related to civil engineering projects.
Maintain detailed records, including daily reports and digital photographic documentation.
Perform field measurements and calculations; report non-compliance issues and recommend work stoppages if necessary.
Prepare inspection checklists, punch lists, conduct final walk-throughs, and verify project completion.
Maintain as-built drawings reflecting changes to plans and document all modifications.
Coordinate materials testing and review reports for compliance; manage multiple projects under deadlines.
Travel to construction sites as required and work independently or remotely.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Understanding of city standards, specifications, and applicable regulations.
Knowledge of construction methods, procedures, and materials (Greenbook/Caltrans Standards).
Experience with SWPPP/BMP compliance and reporting.
Basic math skills related to construction inspection.
Familiarity with AASHTO materials testing procedures.
Strong record-keeping, planning, and organizational skills.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications with minimal oversight.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
Proficiency with laptops, tablets, and software such as MS Word, Bluebeam, and MS Excel.
Certifications:
QSP, CESSWI (preferred or able to obtain within 6 months).
Experience:
Minimum 10 years of public works inspection experience.
Compensation: Hourly rate of $45 - $60, with prevailing wage rates as per California Department of Industrial Relations.
